What’s Saving My Life Right Now
My friend and client Leslie started writing a column titled “What’s Saving My Life Right Now,” an idea she discovered through The Lazy Genius by Kendra Adachi.
Sometimes, I think I’m like a magpie flitting around collecting shiny ideas and inspiration and tucking them away until I’m ready to knit them into something new that feels both comfortable and exciting.
In that spirit, I give you Stephanie’s Version of What’s Saving My Life Right Now:
My life runs on a Google calendar, but adopting some (not yet all) of the disciplines in this planner system have helped me to get a handle on the too many irons that I have in the fire.
Being a mom/wife/business owner/creator/daughter/ caregiver/citizen/deep thinker/friend… it’s a lot. So, if you’ve been trying to break apart the pieces and figure out what’s serving you in this season of life and what’s not? Me, too.
The Full Focus Planner is helping me to stay focused on the projects at hand, including my wellness and relationship habits.
2. The Greg App
I am a notorious over-waterer and this app is helping to make me a formerly notorious over-waterer. I tripped onto this app last winter when the expensive ferns that sits in my kitchen windows were getting crispy and dropping leaves. Turns out, they were in the wrong location and my watering strategy was all wrong.
The thing that I love most about the app is that you can tell it where your plant is located in relation to sunlight and heat vents, and Greg (the app) will tell you if you’ve got it right or not. Plus, it names your plants. Allow me to introduce you to Queen (common sage), Duke (Meyer lemon tree), and Figyonce (a very friendly olive tree).
A good cup of tea is the perfect warmer for a chilly afternoon. I love coffee, but by mid-morning I’ve had enough. I brew this in a beautiful French porcelain mug for an extra touch of happy.
4. Google Assistant
At least five times a day I start a sentence with “Hey Google, set a reminder for me to …” pick-up my prescriptions, make a dog grooming appointment, send a thank you note to Lisa, etc.
We have Google Nest Hubs in every room of our house, so that no matter where I am, when I remember something I need to do I can speak it and it goes right onto the task list, which syncs to my calendar, which reminds to Do.The. Damn. Thing.
If you missed it in my Instagram stories or IRL, I had a fight with a kitchen mandolin and I won a trip to the emergency room.
Making a bandage stick to the end of your finger is architecturally difficult. These bandage wraps have been so easy to use and the happy colors are making the entire thing less irritating. If I have to have my index finger wrapped up for months, at least it’s giving off good vibes.
