Wearapy + Katie
Have you heard the term ”wearapy”? It’s the practice of using your clothes to explore or express different parts of your personality and emotions.
Like the phrase “dopamine dressing,” it ties back to the fundamental science of fashion psychology and our understanding that what you wear affects your mood, emotions, and confidence. Hard stop. So, this seems like a good week to explore that topic more.
When Katie (a real client, but not her real name) first sat down in my studio, she looked tired, overwhelmed, and defeated.
I start every color analysis with the same questions:
“Why color analysis now?”
“What brought you here?”
“What do you hope to get out of our time together?
Her voice cracked as she admitted, “I haven’t felt pretty in a long time.” My heart broke for her, but I reassured her we were going to fix that. Katie is beautiful, whip-smart, and kind, but she’d been so focused on building her successful real estate business and raising a family she hadn’t made time for herself. (Sound familiar?)
By the end of her color analysis appointment, Katie asked for access to Style Immersion, our 90-day concierge program, to detox her wardrobe and uncover her authentic style.
The first time I walked into her closet (as big as my first apartment in Chicago!), I told her, “You have to stop shopping at Chico’s.” #sorrynotsorry
Katie had been masking her body insecurities with booty-covering tunics and swingy tops—guaranteed to make you feel out of style and frumpy. And black pants. Soooo many pairs of black pants.
Over the next three months, we cleared out her wardrobe and refilled it with modern pieces that made her smile—and sometimes even clap! It took courage for her to embrace her curves, but as I taught her how to dress her body for balance and symmetry, her confidence grew.
Once the compliments started rolling in, her confidence soared.
Wearapy for the win.💯
Katie even graced the cover of a national magazine for her business and felt completely confident during the photo shoot—a total boss move.
We’ve been working together for over a year now, and last week, she told me her new motto:
“I don’t hide anymore.”
Go, Katie, go!!
Here are some colorful pieces to inspire your week. Try a few to uplevel your joy and confidence!
